CONTENT MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS

A content management system is an interface for updating a website, typically requiring no website coding skills. Most content management systems use a combination of text editors and form fields for editing content. When we begin a new web project, one of the first things we do is evaluate the types of content that the website will contain and the technical expertise level of the person or people who will be responsible for maintaining the website after launch. From there, we select the most appropriate content management system.

WordPress CMS Development

For many websites, an open source content management system such as WordPress is an appropriate solution. Wordpress gives a huge amount of editing functionality right out of the “box”, with no programming required. Wordpress is particularly good for smaller and brochure-style sites. Wordpress functionality can be extended through numerous free and paid plugins, and Treetop also writes custom Wordpress plugins when the desired functionality does not exist.

Apostrophe CMS

Apostrophe is a newer open source content management system built on the node.js programming language. We like it for its clean code, an intelligent, thoughtful developer community, and the relative ease in which we can integrate it into custom node.js web applications.

Custom Content Management Systems

Sometimes a custom CMS is the best solution. Systems like Wordpress are intended to be many things to many people. When a website has unique content needs that are not readily addressed by an existing CMS, we may propose building a custom CMS to precisely address those needs. Our custom CMS's are typically much easier to use than existing open source systems, because they are built to precisely address the needs of one specific website.

Treetop has been there 110% for us from Day One — patient, understanding, responsive and creatively helping us move forward to achieve our goals.
